Paid AI buying guide
ChatGPT Plus vs Perplexity Pro: Which Paid AI Plan Should You Choose?
ChatGPT Plus is the stronger default when your daily work mixes writing, coding, file analysis and voice. Perplexity Pro makes more sense when source‑led search and research are the main job. Compare the current plan terms, test both on your own tasks, and pay for both only when each saves enough time to justify it.
The decision in one minute
Price and access: check the billing term
OpenAI's Plus plan is $20 a month billed monthly. Its help page says there is currently no annual Plus billing, and API usage is billed separately. The plan raises limits and expands model and tool access compared with Free, but the available picker options and caps can change during rollouts and peak demand.
The public Perplexity Pro offer displayed $17 per month or equivalent when billed annually when checked for this update. That is an annual‑billing presentation, not proof that month‑to‑month Pro costs $17. Perplexity's help center does not state a fixed monthly sticker price in the captured plan page; check the current checkout for the monthly price, taxes, currency and promotion before paying. Pro is a consumer app subscription. The separate Perplexity API has its own usage‑based pricing.
| Buyer question | ChatGPT Plus | Perplexity Pro |
|---|---|---|
| Is the stated price monthly billing? | $20/month, billed monthly | The public $17/month equivalent is billed annually; current monthly checkout price needs checking |
| What is the main paid gain? | Higher access to a broad assistant and its tools | Extended research, more cited sources and broader search/file features |
| Does the subscription cover API use? | No; API billing is separate | No; the API platform is separate |
| Should you assume fixed unlimited usage? | No; caps vary | No; Pro Search, Research and uploads have plan limits |

AI Answers Are Swallowing the Click, and the Tools Built to Track Them Are Changing Shape
For most of the last two years, the pitch for “AI visibility” software was simple: find out whether ChatGPT mentions you. Plug in a domain, get a chart. That part is more or less solved. A newer kind of vendor is trying to answer it.
