Gmail AI Inbox starts its scheduled Workspace rollout, with Starter and Education waiting

The October 26 Scheduled Release phase can take up to 15 days to become visible. Google limits current access to US users with EN‑US and says Starter and Education editions will follow later.

October 26 starts the Scheduled Release rollout

Gmail’s AI Inbox has reached the next phase of its Google Workspace rollout. Google’s [October 15 announcement](https://workspaceupdates.googleblog.com/2026/10/gmails‑ai‑inbox‑is‑rolling‑out‑to‑paid‑Workspace‑users.html) schedules a gradual rollout for Scheduled Release domains beginning October 26, with up to 15 days before the feature becomes visible. Rapid Release domains began their gradual rollout on October 12. The distinction matters for employees looking for the new view: the start date is a rollout window, rather than confirmation that every eligible account has already received it. This is an availability milestone for the previously announced feature, rather than a new October 27 product launch.

Two views organize follow‑ups and ongoing topics

Google describes two core AI Inbox capabilities. Suggested to‑dos extracts action items, deliverables and deadlines from email conversations. Topics to catch up on summarizes priority work updates across multi‑message threads, including decisions and status changes.

For a user, those views serve different questions: what needs a follow‑up, and what changed in an ongoing discussion? They provide an organized route into email content. Google’s release does not report independent accuracy measurements for the extracted deadlines or summaries, and OpenTools has not tested the feature on a Workspace account. Users still need the underlying conversation when acting on an important detail.

The edition list comes with a later‑access exception

The availability list names Business Starter, Standard and Plus; Enterprise Starter, Standard and Plus; AI Pro for Education; and Frontline Plus. But Google adds an essential timing exception: Starter and Education editions will receive AI Inbox later, in the coming months. Those editions should not be treated as included in the current rollout merely because they appear in the broader list.

Google also limits availability to users in the United States with EN‑US as their language. Eligible users can find AI Inbox in Gmail’s desktop client or mobile‑app menu once it appears. The announcement says there is no administrator control for this feature, so the notice does not provide a new admin switch for enabling it ahead of the rollout. Edition, location, language and actual feature visibility each remain part of the access check.
