Meta brings parent alerts to Facebook and Messenger

The October 29 update extends supervision alerts, with human review for AI‑flagged chats.

What changed on October 29

Meta’s [October 29 update](https://about.fb.com/news/2026/07/keeping‑parents‑informed‑teens‑distress‑conversations‑meta‑ai/) says it is rolling out alerts globally to supervising parents for teen Meta AI conversations on Facebook or Messenger that suggest suicide or self‑harm risk, plus repeated Facebook searches for suicide or self‑harm terms within a short period. It expands July’s Instagram announcement.

What an alert establishes

Meta says all AI‑flagged chats are manually reviewed before an alert. Ambiguous intent can lead to a notification, and the company acknowledges alerts can occur without real cause for concern. Contacting emergency services over imminent‑risk Meta AI conversations is still being built. Two alert routes described by Meta: repeated specified‑term searches, or AI‑flagged chats reviewed by a person. Original explanatory diagram, not product UI.
