Advancing open-source AI with Qwen

Alibaba Group's DAMO Academy (Discovery, Adventure, Momentum, Outlook) was established in 2017 as the company's global research initiative in fundamental technologies. DAMO Academy has become one of China's most influential AI research organizations, contributing to areas including natural language processing, computer vision, speech intelligence, and decision intelligence. The Qwen model family represents Alibaba's flagship large language model series. Starting with Qwen-7B and Qwen-14B in 2023, the series has rapidly expanded to include Qwen1.5, Qwen2, Qwen2.5, QwQ (reasoning), and specialized models for code, math, and vision-language tasks. Many Qwen models are open-sourced on Hugging Face and ModelScope, making them among the most popular open-source LLMs globally. Alibaba integrates Qwen models across its vast ecosystem of products and services. Tongyi Qianwen serves as the consumer-facing AI assistant, while Tongyi Lingxi powers enterprise applications. Alibaba Cloud offers Qwen models through its Model Studio (Bailian platform), enabling businesses to deploy and fine-tune models for their specific use cases. DAMO Academy's research extends beyond language models to encompass foundational contributions in AI efficiency, multimodal learning, and AI for science. The organization has published extensively in top AI conferences and maintains one of the largest AI research teams in China.
