Canva 429 explained

Credits aren’t capacity.

Request

Canva’s November 5 changelog adds model_capacity_reached (429) for Create image generation job. October’s credit changes use 402: credit_quota_exceeded identifies the user allowance, app_credit_quota_exceeded the app’s. Waiting for model capacity does not resolve exhausted credits.

Canva’s error guide prescribes exponential backoff for too_many_requests. Keep status and code distinct in logs; routing by 429 alone conflates capacity with throttling.

Job

The [preview endpoint](https://www.canva.dev/docs/apps/rest‑apis/reference/generations/create‑image‑generation‑job/) can return HTTP 200 before completion. Inspect job status. The required `idempotency_key` replays the original job for 24 hours despite parameter changes. Changing models under that key does not start replacement work. Check identity. Documentation analysis; no API test. For creator‑facing availability, see our [Craft report](https://opentools.ai/news/canva‑craft‑dream‑lab‑image‑generation‑api‑mcp‑coming‑soon).
