ChatGPT Ads expands to 26 more countries, reaching 89 markets

OpenAI says more than 100,000 advertisers have used ChatGPT Ads and is extending the product to 26 additional countries. Ads remain limited to Free and Go plans, while the company says conversations are private from advertisers and placements stay separate from answers—claims users should assess through the controls and disclosures they actually see.

The advertising rollout is now much wider

OpenAI [announced on October 21](https://openai.com/index/chatgpt‑ads‑expands‑26‑new‑countries/) that ChatGPT Ads is expanding to 26 additional countries, reaching 89 countries worldwide. The company says more than 100,000 advertisers have run campaigns since ads launched roughly eight months ago. That is a cumulative company‑reported count, not a measure of currently active advertisers or campaign results. The expansion includes 14 more Latin American countries and markets across Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia. OpenAI names Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Peru, Nigeria, South Africa, Serbia, Ukraine, Cambodia, Bangladesh and Pakistan among them.

Only two ChatGPT plans carry ads

OpenAI says ads appear on the Free and Go plans. Plus, Pro and Enterprise subscriptions remain ad‑free. Users should check the label and destination rather than treating a product mention inside the answer as sponsored content. The company says ads are clearly labeled and separate from ChatGPT's answer. Its [engineering explanation](https://openai.com/index/building‑chatgpt‑ad‑stack/) describes a separate service that evaluates whether a placement fits after the answer path has already begun.

Privacy promises need visible controls

OpenAI says advertisers do not receive private conversations, customer data is not sold, and ads do not influence answers. These are consequential company claims. Users should look for current privacy settings, ad‑personalization controls, sponsored labels and explanations of why a placement appeared. Conversational advertising can draw intent from several messages rather than a single search query. That may improve relevance, but it also makes the boundary of the context used for selection more important. People discussing health, finances, family or work should be able to understand when a conversation is ineligible for advertising and how to disable personalization where offered.

Businesses gain access at an early decision stage

OpenAI positions the product for moments when people are still exploring and comparing options. Advertisers can use technology partners or self‑service Ads Manager in supported countries. Before shifting budget, businesses should compare qualified visits, conversions, incrementality and brand‑safety controls with existing channels rather than relying on platform‑wide user or advertiser totals. For users, the practical change is simple: sponsored choices will appear in more markets and more shopping conversations. The useful standard is whether the label, relevance and opt‑out choices remain clear at the exact moment the ad appears. *Figure by OpenTools Team; no third‑party expressive material used.
