NHTSA Investigates 2.6 Million Teslas: Safety Concerns Over 'Smart Summon' Features
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has launched an investigation into 2.6 million Tesla vehicles over the safety of its 'Smart Summon' and 'Actually Smart Summon' features. These features, which allow cars to be remotely moved via smartphone app, are under the microscope following four crash reports. The investigation targets Tesla's Model S, X, 3, and Y vehicles equipped with Full Self-Driving or using free trial offers. Concerns are focused on the features' obstacle detection, performance, user reaction times, and behavior in poor visibility. This probe could mirror a previous investigation that looked into other self-driving tech issues in Tesla cars.
