HWDSB plans November 3 Copilot access for Grades 9–12 through Study and Learn

The board’s announcement ties secondary‑student eligibility to a specific experience, with classroom guidance still part of implementation.

A cohort and an experience

[Hamilton‑Wentworth District School Board’s November 2 notice](https://schools.hwdsb.on.ca/news/hwdsbs‑responsible‑approach‑ai) schedules Microsoft Copilot access for November 3. It limits the rollout to Grades 9–12 through the student‑focused Study and Learn experience. An eighth‑grade student is therefore outside this announced school rollout. General discussion of AI across education does not expand that eligibility.

Enabling access is one step

[The board says educator judgment and student well‑being remain central](https://schools.hwdsb.on.ca/news/hwdsbs‑responsible‑approach‑ai), and staff will receive guidance aligned with curriculum expectations. It also plans ongoing assessment and community input. Those commitments describe implementation and evaluation, rather than demonstrated learning or privacy outcomes. This report has not tested student access or reviewed the linked framework and procedures. Sir Allan MacNab Secondary School, Hamilton, October 2022; archival context, not evidence of Copilot access.
